| Mesquite, Nev., boasts a fair way to play
Las Vegas got to be too big and too expensive and too crazy,'' he said. ``Here, you look out at night and it's quiet and the stars are out, and you don't hear any traffic.'' In two sentences, Longlas came close to summing up what makes Mesquite appealing for a growing number of visitors. Situated 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, the town of about 1,800 offers Vegas-style amenities -- quality golf, a desert climate, mountain scenery and gambling -- but at a lower price and a more relaxed, congestion-free pace. Mesquite has six golf courses and seven hotels -- four of which are casino hotels -- and two spas. It is growing, but far from overgrown. On the north side of Interstate 15, which cuts through the heart of Mesquite, bulldozers crawl around the vast stretches of desert just beyond the edge of town.
Zumaya a California Wildfire Casualty
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Joel Zumaya is going to be gone for at least half of 2008 after injuring his shoulder moving items in his Chula Vista, California home during last week's wildfires. ESPN.com reports Zumaya underwent shoulder surgery on his pitching shoulder in nearby San Diego and won't begin a new throwing program for at least four months. Zumaya may or may not be the first baseball player injured as a result of the wildfires which destroyed several thousand homes, but several players—including Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn and other Padres—were forced to evacuate their homes at the height of the blazes. The Poway home of former Atlanta Braves star David Justice was destroyed in one of the wildfires. Moro buys N.Y. HVAC company
Moro Corp. said Monday that it bought J&J Heating and Cooling. Moro of Wayne, Pa., said Vestal, N.Y.-based J&J operates in the Binghamton, N.Y., area., serving homes and commercial buildings. In addition to heating, ventilating and air conditioning work, Moro makes concrete reinforcing steel and sheet metal and distributes steel and construction accessories. .
Kids Huff Freon to Get High
CARBONDALE, Ill. - During these 'dog days of summer' air conditioning units are working overtime trying to keep homes and offices cooled down. But many of those air conditioning units are becoming the target of kids wanting to drain the freon gas from inside and inhale it, sometimes with deadly results. "They feel a euphoria, light-headiness and they may pass out. But it's that euphoria that they're going after. Unfortunately what these kids don't know is there is long term damage to the body from breathing in freon gas," said Doctor Donna Carney at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Authorities say the way the kids are using the gas to get high is by placing a plastic bag over their head. Then they fill the bag with freon gas. It's heavier than oxygen so it forces the oxygen out of the bag, leaving only the dangerous gas.

Yes, they're huge — like High School Musical big, but we're not usually ones to cover the Jonas Brothers everyday since, you know, we're a bit older. We're more into the OMG 90210 reunion with Kelly and Dylan! Unfortunately looking at Luke Perry makes me feel old. Thankfully Jennie Garth still looks fabulous - must have been all that dancing. Adorable Abigail is always a favorite since seeing her just brings a smile to our faces. Kate Beckinsale was also at the event at Disney but she was covering up her pretty face more than normal this time around. Bella wants to know, do you love or hate Kate's look?
