Abington hospital moves patients after smoky odor

Ten patients at Abington Memorial Hospital were relocated to another building yesterday after a "smoky" smell was detected on a maternity floor. The fire department was called at 3:17 p.m. after sparks from workers' tools landed in some insulation and smoldered, causing the smell, according to hospital officials. The workers were installing a heating and air-conditioning unit in the basement of the Highland Building. The patients were on the second floor. There were no injuries and the move was precautionary, according to hospital officials. - Mari A. Schaefer .

Miley Cyrus: 'I'm lonely'

The 15-year-old Hannah Montana star claims she is lonely, because father Billy Ray and mother Tish have banned her from spending time with many of her friends.

She says, "Some people think you have more privileges than other teenagers because of what you do. And that's not it at all. It's actually the opposite."

"They're protective for sure. My mom is more strict than my dad."

"You want to keep your closed circle of friends. And sometimes my mom is saying, 'I have a bad vibe about this person. She needs to hang out with you when I'm around just to keep you safe.'

"I need more friends. Its kind of like my quest right now just to have more true friends."

ROGERS - Tim Pschierer kind of stumbled his way into living in northwest Arkansas, and since he has been here, he has gotten married and went to work for a nonprofit agency helping children.

Or maybe a different explanation is that Pschierer found his true calling: He found a church home at The Church of Pinnacle Hills, he met Debbie at the First Baptist Church of Springdale and married her, and he founded the nonprofit agency The First Tee of Northwest Arkansas as a way to give something back for all of the good fortune he has found in his life.

Either way you look at it, Pschierer has reason to feel blessed because all of these things are tied together helping him become the man he is today. When Pschierer talks about his job as executive director of First Tee and what the program means to the hundreds of kids in Washington and Benton counties who have joined the organization, he describes how the life and golf skills taught by the agency have also affected his life.

Bonds for libraries, 'COPs' for police building

Barton said when he first began considering COPs he too was "reluctant and hesitant and quite doubtful."

But the public safety building just doesn't have the support, Barton said. He said his son, home from college, didn't know where the police department is, at 275 Forest Ave., while he "knew where all the libraries are."

But the city will have to work hard to find the money to pay for the project, Barton said. Staff estimates the building's cost will climb by about $500,000 for each month of delay after April 2009, based on the $69 million estimate and a 10 percent increase in building materials the city has experienced over the past two years.

"The key is to get us moving down the road and getting this building built," Barton said.

The COPs would be issued in April 2009, when construction is slated to begin.
